Glacier Can’t Limit Voyager Offense in 16-5 Loss
Great Falls, MT. – The Glacier Range Riders (7-9) lost the penultimate game of their road trip 16-5 against the Great Falls Voyagers (12-5) Saturday night.
The Range Rider offense had their best output in the fourth inning when Dean Miller scored on an error, only to be followed by run-scoring hits from Vinny Bologna and Michael Knell. Miller got an RBI to his name one inning later when he brought across Gabe Howell on a single. The final Glacier run came when catcher Jared Fry nearly cleared the scoreboard with a solo homer in the top of the ninth.
The Great Falls offense gave the visiting Range Riders headaches all night as they scored in every inning except for the seventh. A six-run outburst in the bottom of the eighth all but put the game on ice for the Voyagers. One of the odder plays of the season came on a home run by Great Falls infielder Andy Atwood who inadvertently passed one of his teammates on the basepaths which resulted in him being called out, but the two runners were allowed to score. Clearly, that mistake did not make a defense for a well rationed Great Falls scoring effort.
The Range Riders and Voyagers finish out their six-game set in Centene Stadium with a Sunday afternoon contest tomorrow, June 12, with first pitch slated for 4 PM.
