Glacier Hammers Billings for Biggest Ever Win at Flathead Field
Flathead Valley, MT. – The Glacier Range Riders (17-28) hammered the Billings Mustangs (23-21) Friday night, coasting away to a 13-3 victory at Flathead Field. Before tonight the biggest win at home for Glacier was a 9-4 victory over Missoula (also on a Friday night in the red jerseys) and the home side more than double that margin for a record-breaking win at their own ballpark.
The Glacier faithful have come to expect quality starts from Noah Barros, and they got exactly that tonight as Barros threw seven innings, with just five hits, three runs, and eight strikeouts. After giving up a solo homer in the first, the offense would back him up shortly, scoring three runs in the bottom of the third, two on a Ryan Cash RBI double, and one on a Sam Linscott single.
There was much more scoring to come from the Range Riders, however, as they loaded the bases with no outs in each of the next three innings. In the fourth, a Brandt Broussard single brought home one, Cash had a bases loaded walk, Brody Wofford had an RBI groundout, and Linscott pushed two runs across on a single.
It became double-digit runs in the fifth when another RBI groundout and a sac fly made it 10, and it became a double-digit lead with three more runs in the sixth. First, Livingston Morris grounded into an RBI fielder's choice, then Justin Mazzone singled scoring a run, and Broussard capped it off with run number 13 on a sac fly.
With a comfortable 10-run lead, Bret Barnett came in and pitched the final two innings hitless, allowing just one base runner and striking out three.
The Range Riders have already clinched a series win over Billings, but they look to continue their hot streak tomorrow night with a 7:05 PM start time at Flathead Field.
