Range Riders Handle Missoula Paddleheads 6-2 Despite Rain Delay
Kalispell, MT. - The Glacier Range Riders cruised to a 6-2 victory over the Missoula Paddleheads on Tuesday night at Glacier Bank Park, despite a 51-minute rain delay that briefly disrupted the action.
Glacier wasted no time getting on the board, striking in the first inning with a two-run single from Xavier Casserilla. The Riders extended their lead in the second as Casserilla singled again and Kingston Liniak lifted a sacrifice fly, making it 4-0.
Angel Mendoza added insurance in the fifth with a solo home run to left, his third of the season.
The only blemish on the night for Glacier came during a sudden downpour in the top of the sixth, when Missoula's Roberto Peña launched a two-run homer to left—just before the weather forced a 51-minute delay. Those were the only runs surrendered by starter Ty Bothwell, who otherwise dominated over six innings, allowing five hits, striking out seven, and walking one.
Following the delay, Glacier's bullpen was lights out. Rayne Supple, Jacob Hasty, and Jason Franks each tossed a scoreless frame to secure the win.
The Range Riders racked up 12 hits on the night. Casserilla finished 2-for-5 with three RBIs, while leadoff man TJ Clarkson went 3-for-5. Eli Paton also chipped in with a 2-for-4 performance. Defensively, Glacier was flawless, turning a double play and committing no errors. Mendoza led the team with 13 putouts.
For Missoula, Colby Wilkerson went 2-for-4 out of the leadoff spot, and Peña's homer accounted for both of the team's runs. The Paddleheads also played error-free baseball, with Taylor Smith tallying 11 putouts.
The two sides will match up once again Wednesday night at 7:05 PM.
