Schafer Goes the Distance as Range Riders Defeat Mustangs 3–1
KALISPELL, Mont. — Luke Schafer put together a masterclass on the mound Tuesday night, tossing a complete-game four-hitter to lead the Glacier Range Riders past the Billings Mustangs, 3–1, at Glacier Bank Park.
Schafer was in control from the start, striking out nine and walking just one across nine innings. He faced only four batters over the minimum, needing just 111 pitches to record all 27 outs. The right-hander improved to 6–1 on the season with the win.
Glacier gave Schafer early run support in the second inning when Jack Lynch launched a two-run home run to left field — his 8th of the season — scoring Kingston Liniak and putting the Range Riders ahead 2–0.
An RBI single from Angel Mendoza in the fourth extended the lead to 3–0, plating Jake Millan, who reached on a base hit.
Billings' only offense came in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly from Cameron Bowen that brought home Kyle Micklus. But Schafer quickly shut the door, retiring 10 of the final 11 batters he faced.
Julian Garcia took the loss for the Mustangs despite a strong outing. He struck out 13 over seven innings but allowed all three Glacier runs on eight hits.
Liniak, Millan, and TJ Clarkson each collected two hits for the Range Riders, who improved to 9–10 on the second half. Billings fell to the same mark with the loss.
The series continues Wednesday night in Kalispell. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Glacier Bank Park.
