Millan’s Four Homers in Knockout Round Cap Historic Comeback, Sweep of Oakland
KALISPELL, Mont. - The Glacier Range Riders completed one of the most remarkable victories in franchise history Thursday night at Glacier Bank Park, rallying from four runs down in the ninth inning before Jake Millan delivered a dramatic Knockout Round walk-off to secure an 11-10 victory over the Oakland Ballers and complete a three-game sweep.
After the two teams finished regulation tied at 10-10, the game moved to the Pioneer League's Knockout Round extra-inning format, where each club receives five outs to hit as many home runs as possible. Oakland's Tremayne Cobb Jr. put on a show, launching three home runs in the tiebreaker and putting the pressure squarely on Glacier.
Millan responded with a performance for the ages. The Range Riders slugger crushed four home runs in the Knockout Round, including the decisive blast that sent the Glacier Bank Park crowd into a frenzy and sealed the sweep.
The dramatic finish was only possible because of Glacier's stunning rally in the bottom of the ninth. Trailing 10-6 entering their final at-bat, the Range Riders mounted a four-run comeback—tied for the largest ninth-inning comeback in franchise history. Jacob Steele sparked the rally with a two-run double before the tying runs came home on a Ballers error, a drop by the center fielder, forcing the game into the Knockout Round.
Glacier struck first in regulation when Steele lined a first-inning single that drove in two runs. Oakland battled back to tie the game in the fifth before the Range Riders reclaimed a 6-3 advantage in the sixth. Tommy Rover launched a solo home run, Kyle Ashworth was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and JD McLaughlin added an RBI single.
The Ballers answered with a six-run seventh inning to surge in front 9-6. Cobb's three-run double highlighted the rally and helped Oakland take control before adding another insurance run in the ninth.
Glacier just refused to go away.
Steele finished 2-for-5 with a team-high four RBIs, while McLaughlin paced the offense with three hits from the leadoff spot. Rover and Carson Garner each recorded multiple hits as the Range Riders collected 13 hits on the night.
Jonah Giblin started for Glacier and struck out seven over 4.2 innings. The Range Riders bullpen kept the game within reach, with Connor Housley, Alex Bustamante, and Will Maynard all contributing scoreless relief appearances.
Defensively, Glacier was flawless, committing no errors.
The victory capped a dominant three-game sweep of the defending Pioneer League champion Ballers and sent the Range Riders into the weekend with momentum after one of the most memorable wins ever played at Glacier Bank Park. The Range Riders now host the rival Missoula Paddleheads in a three-game set, with first pitch for the series opener coming Friday at 7:05 PM at Glacier Bank Park.
