Three Homers, including Ashworth’s First, Power Glacier Past Yuba for 100th Home Win in Franchise History
Kalispell, MT – The Glacier Range Riders broke out the longball Wednesday night, towering three home runs in the contest to outlast the Yuba-Sutter High Wheelers by a score of 6-5. It was a milestone night for individuals and the franchise as Tyler Davis had his first professional win, Jacob Hasty had his first professional save, and Kyle Ashworth slammed his first professional home run to give the Range Riders their 100th all-time victory at Glacier Bank Park.
After Yuba struck first in the second, it was Kenny Levari that led off the next half inning with a single to get aboard for Angel Mendoza. Mendoza, who played for the High Wheelers last year, then absolutely blasted a ball to deep left center to give him his first home run against his former ball club.
The High Wheelers fought right back thanks to a run in the top of the third, but leading off the bottom half of the frame, Logan Beard would not be denied another Glacier longball, this time a solo shot to put the Range Riders back in front 3-2.
Ty Bothwell battled through an up-and-down start, finishing off with five innings pitched, two earned runs against, and six strikeouts. The next inning, Tyler Davis would make his professional debut, and despite allowing three hits to start the inning, Davis regained his composure and only allowed one run in the frame.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Gabe Howell led the frame off with a bloop single down the right field line, while Mendoza followed behind with a gritty at-bat resulting in a hit by pitch. With two on and one out, Kyle Ashworth stepped up in the nine hole and gave an electrifying swing that torched a ball above the right field wall that not only gave the Range Riders the lead but was his first round-tripper as a professional.
After scoreless innings by Rayne Supple and Connor Housley, Jacob Hasty was called upon to attempt his first career save. Hasty, who is second in the PBL in ERA, calmy responded to a leadoff single with a strikeout, followed by a lineout to left, then a slow grounder to second base to wrap the contest up.
Since the first win at home on June 15, 2022, the Range Riders have amassed 99 more, and officially have hit triple digits in the win column in front of the Flathead Faithful. Here's to the last hundred, and the hundreds more to come in the Valley.
